Hi families,
This week we will begin our unit on the letter "E".
We will meet the Frog Street Press character "Elmo the Elephant".
Monday - Students will be able to recognize the letter E as well as the sounds it makes. We will think about words that begin with E and as the students identify them, I draw them so that they can be visualized.
We will do our Dot Painting for the letter E which helps fine motor skills as well as following directions.
During center time this entire week, I will continue working on name writing individually with the students. You will be able to see their work and progress during January conferences when I will have all of name writing papers from October to January. This makes it easy to notice the progress the children are making.
Wednesday - All About Shapes. We will review the shapes circle, triangle, square, and rectangle. We will make classroom collages of items we find and sort. Look for our art work outside in the hallway at the end of the day. We will also do the "Shape Shake" song and search for shapes in the sand table.
Friday - It's Cooking Friday!!! Students will make a delicious treat that begins with the letter E. Can you guess what it will be?!!
Have a great week - feel free to contact me via e-mail at any time with your questions , comments, or concerns.

Week of October 10th
Hi there!!
This week is a short week so we will not be covering a letter of the week. We will resume with letter "D" next week.
For this week, we will have fun covering the theme of Halloween!
On Wednesday, we will read a book about pumpkins and make our own Jack O Lanterns. We will sing lots of songs all about pumpkins. We will focus on the shape of the pumpkin (circle) and also we will count pumpkins through our songs.
On Friday, we will continue with our Halloween theme. We will complete a pumpkin seed counting booklet. Students will count pumpkin seeds and glue them on the appropriate pages. We will taste the seeds too!!
Finally, throughout this week, I will be working individually with students on name tracing pages. I made some great templates for them to start to practice writing their names. If you would like copies of these templates for extra practice at home, just let me know and I will be glad to send some home. The more they practice, the better they will get at writing and spelling their names!
Thanks!
